Anyone know how to use Rafflecopter on WordPress? I can’t seem to find the widget or use the one I downloaded. I am majorly techno-challenged. Help a girl out … please….

Street Team

Things are starting to get exciting around here. I have some of you emailing me about joining the street team and let me tell you, I’m blown away by the talent and richness of the readers that have volunteered. But we need more! Part of the mission if you take it will be to beta read first drafts of books to help the author know they are going down the right path. I have one available now and need some more people to read it. Any takers??? When you email me, tell me where you’re from, a little about yourself and how you read, for example, by book, kindle or nook. I’m loving hearing from you guys. Keep it coming 🙂  jessica.mcbrayer@gmail.com

What I’m doing now…

It’s been a busy summer so far. Camp, visits from family, swimming lessons, birthday parties and playdates. And were only at the tip of July! Besides all that I’ve read through two manuscripsts from my critique partner and been hard at work on my next book in the Stained series. It’s going to be great. More on the paranormal side than the mystery compared to Stained. It’s called A Murder of Crows and you should look for it in September if not sooner. As soon as I have a cover I will post it. I may have a couple to choose from and do a poll. Not sure yet.

I’m also in the midst of developing a ‘street team’. A group of 40-50 readers that would read my and 4 other author’s books for review. They then would be entered in drawings for swag (goodies) like t-shirts, things related to the books, and kindle readers. What say you??? Would you be interested? Email me at jessica.mcbrayer@gmail.com if you are.

Hoping your summer is going well,

jessi

Sucking Bites is Available

My newest book Sucking Bites is available on Amazon, KOBO and Barnes & Noble. I’m very happy with how it has been received so far. I hope you will enjoy it.

What I’ve been reading:

X-It by Jane George five stars – I wrote a review for this one and I don’t do that often. Really good writing, an edgy, punk, literary piece.

On Writing by Stephen King – 80% done and loving this. Learning a lot.

Wicked by Gregory Maguire – Hubby is reading this first but it is next on my list.

A Gentleman’s Daughter: Her Folly by Reina M. Williams – five stars – I don’t normally read regency Austenesque romance but this was wonderful. If you like clean romance with an independent heroine, this is for you. The rich sensory detail in the period is a pleasure in itself.

New Release **** Sucking Bites

As I’ve previously reported, I’ve been working on a sequel for Sucking in San Francisco, called Sucking Bites. It was scheduled to be out in December of 2012. Due to unforeseen circumstances it was delayed. Editors had conflicting schedules and I had surgery to repair my Achilles tendon. Not fun but necessary. All this means that the book will be out by the end of February. I’ve been working hard on it. I think you will like it.

After this book I will be taking a break from the San Francisco Vampire Series to write the next Thorn (Stained) book. This one will take a lot research. I might slip in a novella about Hannah and Diel going to visit the in-laws 🙂 .

**Also Hell Hounds are for Suckers is now FREE on Amazon and KOBO.

Hope  you enjoy.

New Vendor for Books

As I mentioned in my last post, I was hoping to get my books on All Romance eBooks. It took a bit of time but I am finally uploaded in pdf, mobi and epub versions for your viewing pleasure. The prices are the same as they are on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, KOBO and Ganxy. Just another great place to sell.

My new novella (roughly 60 pages), Hell Hounds are for Suckers, is coming out by next weekend. *keep your fingers crossed* That’s barring no technical difficulties or last minute major edits. It’s a betweenquel for Sucking in San Francisco and the next book in the series Sucking Bites (out in December). I’m really excited about this little book. It’s got great cover art by my cover artist Marik Berghs and it’s been a lot of fun to write. It’s based on one of my favorite secondary characters that really screamed to have her own story told and it introduces a new character too. As soon as I publish I will post a chapter. I’ve posted a quick mock up of the cover. It’s not done yet so it will be sharper and what not, but you can get an idea.

Well that’s all for now. Happy Halloween if I’m not back by then. 😀

Sucking in San Francisco Out in Paperback

Hello everyone. Many apologies for my long absence. I’ve been busy writing and healing. During this time I have made some changes to Sucking in San Francisco. It’s gotten a new cover and some new fonts for chapter headings. The new cover is beautiful, not that the old one wasn’t. It just didn’t fit the style of the book.

Sucking is also now available in paperback and in ebook on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, KOBO and hopefully soon on All Romance eBooks along with Stained.

I’ve also been working on a betweenquel that is going to be out in the next two weeks. It is based on the character Hannah from Sucking and it fits between the first and second full size books. It will be approximately sixty pages and will be called Hell Hounds are for Suckers. I will release the cover for that sometime next week.

The next book in the San Francisco Vampire Series will be called Sucking Bites and will be out by Christmas.

Lots of things happening.

Best Wishes

Jessica

Hard Drive Fail

Well, my book Sucking in San Francisco was supposed to come out at the end of May. Due to some unforseen technical difficulties it isn’t out yet. But I hope by the beginning of next week that will be remedied. Because of this, I am putting it up for free on Amazon when I release it for one day. Be sure to look for it.

In other news, I have been happily working on the next book in the Sucking series. All is going well with the first draft. It will need rewrites of course. Not much writing happening this morning as we are having some yard work done and I am having a hard time writing to the melodious tunes of the weed whacker 🙂

Best to all and hope to be back here soon.

Tattoo Tuesday on Wednesday

I was browsing through Twitter the other day and found this wicked site. It’s dedicated to finding the best tattoos in New York City. It’s called Tattoosday.

They feature tattoos they find at random as well as special tattoos and poetry. You gotta check them out.  Some of you might not know that I do Tattoo Tuesday because the witch in my book Stained is a tattoo artist. She has a shop called Stained in Berkeley, CA. This post is going to be short today because I am trying to get the ending to my next book done so it can come out in May as promised. Next week I am going to post on Samoan tattoos.

Happy Wednesday. j

Social Media

It’s a foggy monday in the Bay Area and I am settled down in front of the computer with a cup of coffee. Ready to do rewrites, again, still. I’ve been spending too much time on Twitter, which by the way, if you haven’t followed me there I would love to see you. I’m at @jessimcbrayer on Twitter.

Which brings me to the Social Media Time Suck. As an author, I know how important self-promotion is, but it takes up so much time. It also is a fine line between “look at me, look at me” and simply being present. I have to admit I am shy when it comes to social media. I’m much more of a stalker than a tweeter or a poster on Facebook. I try to post but I can’t seem to find anything witty enough to say.  I need a good hash tag. Any suggestions on one I can start? I see a lot of authors doing clever lines about their books. I love that. I don’t like it when they just repeat verbatim excerpts from their books over and over again. Blatant self-promotion is not my thing.

Come on universe, give me some ideas and clever repartee. I need all the help I can get.
